Overview

The Śrī Veṅkaṭeśvara temple at Tirumala, on the seven hills above Tirupati, draws vast daily pilgrimage to the Lord known simply as Balaji. It is managed by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which operates a slotted darshan system and extensive pilgrim services across the hill.

Sthala Purāṇa tradition · sacred narrative

The Veṅkaṭācala Māhātmya of the Skanda Purāṇa exalts the Veṅkaṭa hill as Viṣṇu's chosen abode in the Kali age: Śrīnivāsa dwells on Śeṣa's own coils, the hill itself the serpent-king's body, and there the Lord remains to receive the prayers of the age's afflicted beings.
